You will also get pool-style hose clamps for the Cascade and Cascade Elite. Ken F. I have a old fluval that is close to 20 years old still runs perfectly fine. |Furla tessa||It's also cheap enough that if I decide to overstock the tank later, and if I like the Penn Plax, I could afford a second one. It also helps to have the output hose shorter than the input hose. Onewolf Aug 4, Aquarium Filter. Close Menu. But that doesn't offer any capacity advantage over the Magnum I have now, where the Cascade does. You should upgrade or use penn plax cascade 1500 alternative browser. |Iphone x plus apple store||The Fluval is rated for gph and a gallon tank. But that brings up the question of canister filter ratings and whether they're meaningful at all. I just got my cascade and it will not prime to get started. The Eheims have shown with less GPH, you can get better biological filtration with less media. Nov 6, Littlebudda.|
Please try again later. All I knew was that I was tired of smelly cloudy water in his old 55 gallon tank with a fish tank filter only, and did not want to repeat the experience. There was a big difference in 24 hours, but It took about a week to get the awful water to become nicely see-through again, and a couple more days to get rid of most of the pond smell. The water did not get crystal clear until after the first filter change. The first filter media lasted about 3 weeks before the water began to cloud up, so I had to start the new media in slightly cloudy water, which it totally cleared after 3 days.
I expect to only change the filter once a month or so now that the water quality is under control. I put the bag of charcoal in the bottom basket again and the sponge biofilter in the top. I put a new bag of charcoal in the middle basket as well as floss in each basket. After reading some other suggestions, I also stuffed a little pillow floss around the top basket. As a first-time canister filter user, I looked at all the reviews and pictures and filter media suggestions before deciding to purchase.
This was the one that both fit my budget and had great reviews, so I decided to try it. It came with all the filter media in the three baskets in order, and with the shut-off valves put together. I had no trouble putting it together, cutting the hoses to length, and priming it. I did discover you need to prime by pushing the button very fast. After the first filter change, I did not need to prime, the hoses were already full of water, and I had put about an inch in the filter, so when I turned it on, everything started.
I have included several pictures of my exterior filter and hose setup. It was difficult for me to find pictures that showed the whole setup in detail. I hope these will be helpful to other beginners. I understand how it works now, but had no idea in the beginning. I hung my hoses off the back of the tank next to the wall. I cut my hoses to about 40 inches in length.
The hoses do touch a bit of the wall, but I could get them off by moving the filter. I put the filter directly below the tank and have it plugged into a power strip, which makes it easy to turn on and off. I have the filter in a plastic crate because I am paranoid, but have not had any leaks from anywhere in the system. It also makes clean up easier if I spill any water when I unhook the filter. The filter is almost silent after it fills. I used three of the 4 aerator tubes to bring the water farther out into the aquarium.
I get some water out of the tube holes, and the rest pours out the end. Turtle seems to enjoy playing in the waterfall. I put 4 on it but destructo-turtle easily pulls the tube out of the holders. It still stays hooked over the side and does not move very much, but I will be glad when I can block it off and get gravel in the bottom to distract him. I am so impressed with this filter, my turtle never had it so good. Still nice clear water. I have been using bio-floss in each basket, a bio sponge on the top in the lower basket, activated charcoal on top in the middle basket, and bio-rings on top in the top basket.
I still stuff floss down the side of the top basket. Size: Cascade Verified Purchase. Too much bypass, i. Water is supposed to flow first, through the most bottom filter compartment, then through the compartment on top of that. However, due to the bypass issue, water flows through all the compartments at will.
As a result, my top biological filter compartment began to fill with gunk, which is supposed to be removed by the bottom three filter compartments. I finally managed to fix the problem by wrapping a 6 mm expanded polypropylene EPP sheet as shown in the picture. Remember the TPP and the total rear reaming the US would have gotten from cheaply made eastern garbage?
This is a case study in that. Cheap plastic handles and outflow tubes. I bet you're thinking well yeah but why would that be a huge issue? It becomes a huge issue when you attempt to prime this POS and diagnose why it won't work for close to three hours.
Now I don't have a PhD in liquid dynamics however when the plastic 'bridge tubes' have micro cracks in them that prevents priming and summarily leak, that's a major issue. How hard is it to just include hard plastic bridge tubes? Also, why would you make the centre translucent? I don't want algae growing in the damned filter. Hell even the pump inside of the thing is total trash. This couldn't put out 2. They should change the name from Penn Plax to Penn Crap. I want my time and energy back from having to clean the colossal mess this made in my living room.
Go with anything else but this PoS. Unbeatable Value. Highly, highly recommended. I've been a user of Fluval filters, and I recently my fault broke the case of my Fluval Since I've had problems with the Fluval before difficult to prime, leaks during power failures, etc the broken case caused me to consider other potential filter options.
After some research I found the Cascade models and decided on the Here's what I love about it: Sturdy construction - All the components of the filter are made from sturdy plastic. Much stiffer and stronger than the plastic casing of the Fluval Also, the casing is translucent so you can see through it to give you an indication of what's going on inside which is an added bonus! Lastly, the joint between the motor unit and the canister is held by 4 latches of better design the similar 2 latches on the Fluval.
Ergonomic design - The motor unit has a convenient fold-up handle that allows for ease of pick-up and locating the filter. The filter baskets each have a handle to allow ease of removal of the filter baskets. The primer button is also easy to use. Exceptional value - The filter has 5 filter baskets that are a very large size allowing for tremendous options to setup your desired mechanical, biological, and chemical filtration.
It also comes with BOTH a spray-bar and spout outlet setup allowing to you to choose the setup of your choice. Easy setup - The instructions are extremely clear and the setup is very easy. The hose attachments at the filter, shutoff valves, and at the over-the-rim hardware are all fabulous.
No leaks and very sturdy installation that gave me much more confidence than I had in my Fluval setups. Quiet Operation - Lastly, its important to note that this filter is effectively silent. I haven't heard a peep from it after it cycled all the last bits of air out of the filter media I love the filter and strongly recommend it. See my comparison pictures of a few key comparisons to the Fluval filter baskets.
Top reviews from other countries. Translate all reviews to English. It broke and a burnt smell was coming out. I thought this would've been good because of the reviews but mine arrived and stopped working. After a few hours i could smell a burning smell so i turned it off, ive tried everything but it didnt work and they didnt even get back to me when i tried to contact them.
Thats 80 pounds wasted, please dont waste your money guys you can get a cheaper alternative that actually works great. Report abuse. I've been out of the aquarium game for about 10 years due to having kids, but I'm getting back into it now that they've grown and want to help with the hobby.
I had an old eheim , but it was missing many parts, making this cheaper than fixing that canister, so I went this way. Honestly I regret that decision. The build quality of this canister is shockingly poor. The pump is quite noisy, but bearable, no where near as quiet as my old eheim however. I also really dont like the suction cup mounts it includes, there is no way to get stuff to sit straight since they have so much ability to move.
However all that is livable, the biggest most annoying issue is that when you use the included quick disconnects to clean your filter media, it dumps a good amount of water on the floor. Yea, you can deal with this if your ready for it, but my old canister lost maybe a drop of water if you weren't careful, the pennplax is like ml or more of water.
Wouldnt buy this again, but I cant return it since I've used it, so here we are, it'll likely work but I'll also probably end up building a sump to get rid of this piece of junk. I now have a problem where the stock hoses have collapsed on themselves anywhere there is a slight bend.
Means the filter is useless unless I spend money on hoses. Setting up a sump right now to ditch this junk once and for all. Not even 2 months old. I am not disappointed! Size: I was very anxious to order the filter as I was reading reviews and I've seen plenty where people had received broken products. The one I had received was unscathed. I was worried because the box was damaged by the time I received the product.
A shipping sticker was just stuck onto the side of the products box. Set up was really simple. It was set up within minutes. There were reviews that stated how difficult the priming button was. The button was very simple to compress and it primed without issues on the first try. It's been set up in my gallon tank for nearly a month now and the water is crystal clear. Incluso incluyen piezas de repuesto y dos opciones para el ingreso del agua al acuario. Especificaciones del acuario: 60 litros, plantado, con peces dorados y plecos.
Translate review to English. I bought this excited to use it and upgrade my filter to my reef tank where all the inhabitants were doing well with an internal filter. When I received it, despite a cracked black trim that would not affect the performance, I excitedly installed it after rinsing everything and had it set up at pm.
By the time I woke up at am the next day, most of my reef fish were half dead. I quickly removed the new filter, put my old one back in and did a water change. Unfortunately, I lost three of the six reef fish I had, corals were suffering, shrimps were lethargic, crabs weren't very active. There was something toxic in that filter. The picture is of one of the casualties I had already flushed my yellow tang and pajama cardinal.
Many customers have set it up in as little as 15 minutes. If you are doing it for the first time, it may take a little longer, yet it is going to be easy. Just be careful and tighten all the rubber tubing and hoses in the right way. This makes sure your filter will run properly when turned on. A proper flow rate is crucial to the complete filtration procedure. The Cascade for example has a good capacity and offers a flow rate of gallons per hour.
It is more efficient than many other brands you may have used until now. You can easily use it for tanks up to 65 gallons in size. The filter even comes with a spray bar that makes water circulation and aeration a lot easier. It furthermore ensures that your complete tank water gets filtered as fast as can be.
While selecting any canister filter this is something you must give importance to. You obviously are in search of a product that ensures a great filtration process. The filtration process depends on the type of filtration media used. Here you are offered 2 to 5 depending on version big media baskets that you can customize to match your needs. To make sure your canister filter works efficiently for longer you must clean it on a regular basis.
Do not worry, as cleaning the filter is super easy. Next, disconnect the hose to avoid experiencing any water leakage. Unplug your filter from wherever you have mounted it and now clean it in your sink. To open your filter you simply have to follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer. After you have completed the cleaning process just connect it back to place.
